Can someone please explain this joke for me:

Why did the plane crash?

Because the driver was a tomato.

I don't get it, and my idiotic brother here is laughing at me for it.

The joke makes absolutely no sense, whatsoever. OK, so a tomato can't fly a plane, but in order for the plane to crash, it would have had to get the plane in the air to begin with. A tomato can't do that from the very start, so it can't crash a plane!!!

i think it is one of those things where the answer isnt really a joke,just pretty much an answer.like "why did the chicken cross the road?to get to the other side."why did the plane crash?because the pilot was a tomato.

Well the plane crashed because the pilot (which just ironically happened to be a tomato) had a heart attack and there was no one to fly the plane
