I don't understand rave and ravers culture? ?

I went to a rave recently (Electronic Daisy Carnival in LA) and I just saw a bunch of, basically like 12 year old kids on drugs and almost completely naked girls and creepy people everywhere on drugs, and one 8 hour long song that just would not stop.

I didn't do any drugs, I was miserable the whole night. I just went with my brother to see what it would be like. To me, it was just too much overstimulation, and just complete insanity basically. How could ANYONE actually think raves are fun?

To all you ravers, I'm seriously NOT hating on you, I just want some enlightenment on why you think raves are so fun.

So E Makes you "love" people more? do you like not have enough love in your life with your friends and stuff as it is?? Why would you want to take a drug that could possibly kill you just to experience a slightly elevated level of love for a few hours?

I. Just. Don't. Get. Raves.

  1. Okay I know why you had a bad time -- because you went to EDC.

EDC SUCKED this year. As like most massives these days, it's all 16 yr old candy kids all f*cked up. It's pretty sad to see what the rave scene has come to these days.

My suggestion: Try going to a rave that is NOT all ages. Try a trance club like Vanguard or RED (if you are 21+).

A lot of the reason why raves suck these days is because people go just cuz it's a place to get messed up. I bet hardly 1/2 those people even knew who Paul van Dyk was or any other DJ. That's the thing that pisses me off the most -- people don't go for the music anymore and that's what it really is about. It's become so commercialized these days.

I've been raving for 9 years and I actually stopped for 4 years because of those reasons above. But in the end, I go for the DJ and myself, and just try to make my way around the messed up kids sitting on the floor ;)

  2. i bet they're a lot more fun on E

  3. Raves are (or should be (or at least were)) events which bring together (usually hedonistic) people who are passionate about electronic dance music and dancing.

Also, "slightly elevated level of love" is an understatement. Ecstasy may make you feel very strong empathy towards the people around you and there's no way to explain how good (emotionally and physically) you can feel on X to someone who's never tried it.

Of course some raves have a better atmosphere than others. Nowadays it's not as much "Peace, Love, Unity and Respect" as it was in the early 90's when the big warehouse raves were very underground.

My advice is to get to know some people who go to raves regularly. If you try to be open to new points of view you'll eventually figure that stuff out. After all, it's the people that matter the most.

  4. I think you have to be on drugs to enjoy it and you weren't so.... yeah.

  5. haha thats the whole point!! you have to be trippin on acid or E for it to feel fun. i went to one sober once and it was the wierdest thing ever haha i know how u feel but if u dont wanna do drugs then dont go to raves cuz u wont get into them if u dont.

  6. hmm EDC sucked

i advise you to go the smaller ones..better vibes.

i have to admit that my first time was EXTREMELY overwhelming too

so i totally understand where you're coming from.

EDC was also my first massive. i was..not a happy camper ahha.

but what keeps me coming back every time is the music and people.

under the influence or not, you can find complete strangers willing to help you out.

& it's a place where people DGAF! so you can do whatever you want& there's no judgement.

but i'm happy that you tried it out first before judging and what not.

i'm not going to lie, the scene isn't for everyone. but thank you for giving it a shot anyways<3
