I don't understand this geography graph question?

"Describe the relationship between two variables that your graph shows. Is this a positive or negative relationship?"

Could someone please explain to me what this means?

  1. This graph relates:

    x-axis: GNP gross national product,

    y-ayis: a form of pollution -- unknown, probably related to air pollution.

    It shows the relationship between wealth (GNP) and air pollution.

    The interpretation is: GNP or wealth is directly related to industrialization, that produces air pollution, because of the factories, smelters, chemical plants.


  2. The line is ascending at a right angle meaning a positive correlation between the GNP and air pollution in Pollutiona.  Most of the blue dots are hugging the line meaning the graph has validity. Pollutiona is living up to it's name.  

  3. There are two variables GNP and air pollution (the line and the dots).  The question is asking whether or not there is a relationship between the two.  The answer it yes, there appears to be a correlation (positive relationship) between the two because they are both exhibiting an upward trend at a similar rate in concert with one another
