I don't understand this sentence.?

Please, can you make the sentence more understandable?

Basically - his job is hectic but he can handle it.

Though, I think that here 'peace' refers to having a sound conscience. He is suggesting that he has inner resources of mind and spirit which prevent him being shaken by the stresses and activities of his job.

A proverbially, is relating to a saying. But they are speaking  metaphorically. It sound like something a leader would say, whilst suffering from extreme hedonism and delusions of grandeur. In other words he is in a world of his own.

I am one of those unambitious lawyers who never addresses a jury or in any way draws down public applause, but, in the cool tranquillity of a snug retreat, do a snug business among rich men's bonds, and mortgages, and title deeds. All who know me consider me an eminently safe man.

So he is talk about the profession of lawyers who are energetic and nervous because they have to stand up in court and debate, make public arguments etc.  But unlike them he never goes into court, he just works away in a quiet office.

You cannot give things out of context, that is an unfair question.

Since I am a lawyer, my work involves being excited (energetic and nervous mean the same here), even troubled at times. But, I have not allowed such emotions to overpower me.

Even though I  am in a profession known for craziness, I do not allow my profession to disturb my peaceful nature.

This is a person who does not let his job get to him emotionally.  He takes everything in stride.
