You could translate it as just study of the mind, but that's a bit limited. While that's technically true, there are a variety of very different specialties within the field. A general psychology course ( or even just the text book) would give a nice overview.

Some people in this field study chemical reactions at a molecular level, while others might focus on statistical analysis. Many of them work with live people, but there are a lot of different specialties, approaches, etc.

So it is a study of the mind, but this could cover dozens of vastly different occupations and approaches. A great place to look for info is;
