  1. Top marks to Magicman,Tornado and Ruddiger for accurate and interesting answers, cant top those answers but I'll add that between the two of them,Givens and King, they made a polite decent respectfull Tyson into an unbalanced chaotic shell of a man..............and that's before Desiree Washington carved him up with a false rape allegation,When you look at Mike Tyson's life history he is more sinned against than sinner,a real shame.

  2. Tyson was at his best under Rooney as Rooney commanded the same respect that Tyson gave Cus D'Mato.  Tyson was also lucky to have 2 managers in Jimmy Jacobs and Bill Cayton.  Tyson loved Jacobs but was not fond of Cayton.  So when Jacobs died right before the Michael Spinxs fight, Tyson was very vulnerable.  It is no secret that Robin Givens, her mother, and Don King were not fans of the Cayton/Rooney tandem and they brainwashed Mike into following their lead.

Givens didn't like Rooney because he was able to see her for what she really was, a controlling b*tch, and he was man enough to say it to Tyson.  And Don King knew with Cayton and Rooney still in the picture, he would never get complete control.

Upon splitting from Rooney, Tyson's decline was immediate.  Even though Jay Bright was a Cus D'Mato disciple and Tyson knew him since his amateur days, he didn't command that same respect.  And Aaron Snowell blossomed into a decent trainer but at the time, he was too inexperienced to be working with the heavyweight champion of the world.

  3. because tyson was a h**l of a good fighter but he was crazy. he admitted to doing drugs. he had problems, and who could blame him. his parents dead and he was raised by an old white guy who died during tysons prime.

  4. Although King was a bad force in Tysons life, It was actually his wife Robin Givens who fired Rooney. She took over the roll of Tysons manager and was friends with King. Rooney hated Givens with a passion even stating before Tysons downfall that she was going to ruin Mike Tyson.

Rooney once called her a vicious little c un t. He was let go soon after. She introduced Mike Tyson to Don King and the wheels were in motion for Mike Tysons own raping.

Don King was responsible for stealing Tyson away from Layer/promoter Bill Clayton.

After Robin Givens had done her damage, she took her money and divorced Tyson.

There is actually an interview with Barbara Walters I think it was, where Givens sat there and told of how Tyson abused her and how it was h**l to live with him. You could tell that Tyson was completely drugged up.

When Tyson was later asked if he ever did hit Robin Givens he said "It was he best punch I ever threw"

  5. Around that time Tyson was a Young impressionable guy who never had a black father figure in his life. He was always surrounded by Cus D'amato's people who were mostly older white guys. Cus kept the bad guys away from Tyson because he knew he was weak mentally.

After Cus died Tyson was like a baby in the wilderness and easy prey for a sophisticated con-artist  posing as a father figure like Don King.

Don King convinced him to sign with him, and manipulated him into thinking he was so good he didn't need his trainer, and that he didn't need to live a disciplined life-style, so he fired Rooney.

I'm not sure, but I believe the first fight with Frank Bruno was his first fight under King, and without Rooney in his corner. He started showing signs of vulnerability right away!

  6. There are some good answers above me and I think all of them are right to a certain extent. I also think that Tyson did not want to work that hard any more and that is Tyson's fault and he knew he could not get away with that with Rooney. Most fighters when they split with the trainer who got them there will eventually get back together and that was what I was waiting for but it never happen Tyson let his ego kill his future what a shame and a waist Tyson had the most demanding workout program in boxing and that is what made him the beast he was
