I don't understand why people compare...?

I dont understand why many people compare there Min Pins, with Dobermans. Like they say they are easy to train and teach and good guard dogs for there size. While Dobermans are too they are not Min Pins. And have different standards.

Oh I know.  I hate it when people think they are the same thing!

Its called Mini PINSCHER..  not Mini DOBERMAN!  There are other types of Pinschers too!

Min Pins were actuall a type of small terrier.. They were called min pins, because they resembled a small version of the GERMAN Pincher!  They are not a bred-down version of any pinscher breed tho!

They were an established breed looong before Dobermans were created!

They look alike, therefore they're the same breed (in some people's minds).  Stupid way to think, I know, but hey....

Because the vast majority of people who come on YA dogs section, have no idea what a dog really is. Does that answer your question?

Unlike the Miniature Poodle, which is a scaled-down version of the Standard Poodle, the Min Pin is not a smaller version of anything, especially the much-larger Doberman Pinscher. Both may have descended from the German Pinscher, a medium-sized black and tan dog bred to control vermin in the barnyard, but there the relationship ends. The Doberman includes Rottweiler and perhaps the Black and Tan Terrier; the Min Pin reportedly came from crosses with breeds as diverse as the Dachshund1 and the Italian Greyhound.

Two completely different dogs and the min pin breed is actually older than that of the doberman.

I can't understand that either, as they are two separate breeds.

It really annoys my friends who show Min Pins that people tend to think that they are Dobermann puppies. I have never seen a Dobe pup with muscles like a Min Pin has on its back legs.

Agree that there is no comparison, a Min Pin is not a pocket sized Dobe and was not bred to guard/protect as the Dobe was.

When I tell people I have Doberman Pinschers, the next thing out of their mouth is usually "oh miniatures or full sized"?  Grrr! Irritating!

Correct, they are different breeds and obviously have different standards.

ADD: Golden Patrol...... MinPins DO NOT have Doberman Pinscher in them.  They are believed to be crosses between the German Pinscher, the Daschund and the Italian Greyhound. The Min Pin is older than the Doberman Pinscher.
