I lost interest in the field about a year ago. Since then I've kind of been wandering in college, taking random science classes, since I thought I should do dentistry instead. I didn't do too well in college since I wasn't sure what I wanted to do and I hated the college. So I'm back with my parents now and I'm starting at a medical school near them in about a month (they work overseas, both of them are physicians). I haven't started yet but I really feel that I don't want to do this. My dad told me a few weeks ago he didn't think I was cut out for it, but we still went through with the the registration/initial testing, etc. But maybe I'm just not cut out for it .. I don't really like studying organs and body systems.. So I thought about my talents and what I like to do and realized to myself that I want to be a teacher instead. It was an idea I played with before but never really actually pursued. I remembered that even when I was younger, I took on a variety of tutoring jobs and did well and enjoyed it. And in school I effortlessly aced english and english tests and did really swell on the english portion of the SAT I without any previous studying at all, 700 or so, but for math, I constantly needed a tutor in school, and even with the extra prep for it, I didn't do as well as in english. And science is just blah..So how can I break this news to my parents who are bound to be disappointed, maybe even angry?

  1. Guess what, a only 6% out of a 100% like what they want at their first try

so don't worry about it, talk it out.. eveything will be fine, i mean ya your parents might be upset, but you're the one that's going to be stuck with tha career for the rest of your life,s o you brather stop it before it goes even more farther with more regrets

  2. If you feel to guilty to tell your parents, get a student loan and apply at the college that you truly want to go to. After you been accepted and you have everything settled, tell them gently that you have finally found your destined path and are taking it with full responsibility. They may be upset at first, but if they truly love you, they will come to admire your strength. Good luck!

  3. First  get  it  straight what you do  want  to study.  If medical  related  perhaps  research or related  field. Confess to Dad  it is  not what you want at  this  time but you are interested in  ---whatever.  They may be upset at  first but if your  making  progress forward then it will please  them If you are  not able to do that then there  may be  a  more  deeper problem with you         that you need to face and  correct.  Teachers  dont  get  near  pay of  doctors  but it is  a honorable  field.

  4. I think you should let them know you really haven't made a decision regarding your education. There are many people who reach mile stones in their life. This is one of yours to find out what you truly enjoy doing, You must concentrate on your hobbies and the things that bring you joy. If you find something you are really passionate about that's what you should do.  If you like animals, become a vet. If you like reading books, become a librarian. There are many things you can accomplish. I'm good at giving advice, So I'm on yahoo. lol have a great day!!!

  5. You parents unconditionally love you and they want you to be happy. They will support you in any discussion you make. Teaching is a noble career choice… go for it!

  6. Hi Samurai,

Do it as fast as possible and be clear and courageous.  Do not be afraid of their reactions because you have to fulfill your vocation in life.  You seem to be clear that you like to become a teacher.  Explain to them what you just wrote.  Apologize to them if they are disappointed, but stay firm in what you really want to study.

I understand your situation, it is very hard to make choices sometimes.  But now try your best to stick to your plans and work very hard to be the best teacher.

    To your success!

  7. tell them honestly what you feel. they can't force you to do something that's against your will cause it's your life dear, it is'nt easy at first but i  know  that they would learn to respect your decision. goodluck dear.

  8. i would tell them why you want to quit on becoming a doctor. If teaching is what you want to do then go for it! I'm sure your parents will understand.

  9. You have to be straight with them. You can't survive med school if you aren't totally determined. You would be wasting your money big time. Also, there are people out there who are desperate to be doctors and are having problems getting into a decent med school. You would be a fool to pursue someone else's dream when it isn't even close to yours.

If you love teaching then go out there and become the best teacher you can be. The world needs great teachers who love imparting knowledge to their students. A good teacher who engages the attention of his students and teaches them to love learning is just as important as a dr. You don't know how many students you will have who will end up becoming drs and scientists or other professions and doing great things for the world because you taught them they can learn, how to learn and that learning is a wonderful thing.

  10. easy.. tell them straight up. If they don't agree s***w them
