I work in a city where it's made up of 98% of this one race of people. I meet many people and many go in and out of my store. Most of them have HUGE attitude problems and are just beyond ignorant. They argue and fight and throw things . Its a very dangerous city about close to 400 murders a year. And the highschool drop out rate there it 74 % the lowest in the US.

They give me alot of trouble , They almost all act the same way and try to be gangsters and threaten to kill you over nothing. I don't know why they are this way . I don't like it.

If everyone that I meet there is of the same race and are just beyond rude and just nasty! What am I suppose to think?

Are they like that everywhere? I don't understand. And even when you argue with them the first thing theyll attack is your race. BUT when im 20 miles away in a city where there arent many of that race of people. Everything goes smoothly. Why?

Is it still racism and sterio typing even if I feel that its just the truth?

  1. Racism only exists when there's a much larger group than the other one...

  2. you live in a city where poverty and corruption are rampant.  No one caught there thinks they have any chance for a decent life.  They have passed the tipping point where other folks want to try to help them pull themselves up.

I know what you are saying is true, and it is very sad.  Take the same folks and put them from childhood in a decent family in a decent neighborhood, though, and you would see completely different people.

Sort of makes you sympathize with the British, who exported all their criminal class they could in the 1700's and 1800's; but, where, today, could we export them to?

  3. What you may be seeing is called personality disorders and it can be caused by child abuse, other abuse, learned or inborn.  It is seen in extreme ends such as rich and poor. It causes interpersonal conflicts with the person not aware there is a problem, blaming others mostly.  It is basically a high or low ego problem. The rich will have inflated egos from their wealth and the poor will inflate in order to handle their status.  It causes people to have a wild ride of a life. You have to keep calm and try to educate in order to find the real person under the high or low ego.

  4. racism is based off stereotypes. stereotypes are based off generalizations. and generalizations are based off of some truths. yes, african americans in inner cities do have a tendency to commit violent crimes, drop out of high school, and live below the poverty line. although that might not make that type of person your favorite to hang out with, they are people too, and still deserve respect. just because someone is uneducated, poor, and obnoxious doesnt mean they arent a person. people can not control what kind of situation they are born into and the culture around them. Let me give you an example.

    Life A

Let's say you were born to a heroin addicted mother, your dad is out of the picture, she is a prostitute, and you are close to starving. she doesnt value education or values, and raises you the same way. did you have a choice?

    Life B

you have a lot of good opportunites. your parents are middle class, you have food to eat, and you arent arround prostitution and drug use. they care for you, and work hard. did you have a choice?

  5. I find it interesting that you don't reveal your race or the predominant race of the city in which you work. I believe that you're trying to make the point not to stereotype people.

I suspect that you  may be a minority working in a city that is 98% white.  I say this because I am uncertain  there are any cities that are 98% minority, more likely to be a city (probably small)that is 98% white. The place  Ilive in is just around 20,000, predominately white, and its categorized as a city.(However, most of our citizens don't act like those where you work!)

Interesting post, although I may be way off base here.

  6. theres no choice it makes a brother bitter

  7. we always have a choice.
