  1. you are lucky.

  2. That sounds awesome to go there and to look at a castle and even buy one!  What an adventure!  So if they buy it will you have to move?  You never know, you might like it if you give it an honest chance.

  3. That's not a real castle, it's a replica barely 35 years old...

That's almost a joke because almost every small or big place in Portugal has a castle (there are much more castles in Portugal than in any other european country), usually much more than 600 years old, so a real castle in Portugal is a normal thing.

That's in the Algarve, the most touristy area of Portugal and a major holiday destination in Europe. It's a bit overdeveloped but it still has some untouched and really beautiful deserted beaches and great, intact, medieval old towns and small villages.

Now that "castle"... It's an incredibly tacky building, a replica of a castle very badly made in 1972... It's on the WRONG side of a major highway that basically splits the Algarve into the coastal area and the mountainous area. The "castle" is on the mountainous area... It has a spectacular view over the hills and the ocean but it's quite far from the beaches (at least 20 km).

With a fraction of that money they could buy an incredible villa by the sea anywhere in Portugal.

  4. How old are you? Can you talk to your parents about maybe staying in LA with friends until you finish school?

Have they actually bought the place, or are they just going to look at it?

How do you know you won't like Portugal? You might find that you really love it. At least give it a chance. The trip to see the castle might convince your parents that it isn't what they want, but it might also convince you that LA isn't the only cool place on earth.
