To believe in God or to reject Him is a choice we make that is not based upon proof.  To not believe in God doesn't at all mean that we're convinced He doesn't exist.  To not believe in God means that we've decided that our happiness in life lies in rejecting God's authority over us.

I think that a part of us is always asking "what if .... He really does exist?"  "How am I going to explain why I rejected Him?"
