  1. that sucks i wouldn't b able to keep doin that!

  2. i have the same problem. Its really hard to deal with sometimes but than when you do get to chill with your friends you have soo much fun. What makes it better for me is i have some friends on the team and when we have time in between sets we talk and after practice we hang out sometimes.  If you want to be a competitive athlete than that sport will consume all of your time and become your life. If you really love it than you wont mind but if you dont think it is worth it maybe you should take a day off once in a while. Dont burn yourself out. I do however know from friends that have quit because they wanted more of a life that they really regretted it after they quit and now it is too late for them to get back to where they were.

  3. DEPENDS ON YOUR OBJECTIVES: ARE YOU GOING FOR OLYMPICS GOLD, OR ARE YOU LOOKING TO HANG OUT WITH A CROWD?

  4. you do have a life its your friends that do nothing but hang in the mall all day that dont have a life be proud of your swimming its going to get you farther in life it leads to scholarships and grants and looks good on a college app. and keeps you in shape and keeps you focused, but dont get me wrong you need balance so maybe pick a day like saturday or whatever day you want and just hang out and be a kid =]

  5. None of us do honey, either keep swimming or get out of the way.  All the training is worth it when u swim fast and u know it.

  6. you should take a break from weights at least one week. but try to get your friends into swimming.

  7. ya

  8. Wow! You're very dedicated to the sport of swimming! I swim only 1 hour and a half  a day! I've gotten some friends of mine to do swim team with me and it makes it a lot more fun and a rewarding experience. Keep with it~ you'll like how physically fit you are and it's a great skill to have.

  9. No, you should keep swimming.  You DO have a life.. swimming.  Too bad your friends don't swim with you.. you should get them into swimming.

  10. If you could find a way to balance your time out between swimming and spending time with your friends that could help.  But if your tired of swimming you gotta think if you stop now are you gonna have regrets?  You could get into a college by doing sports.  Not sure if swimming would be one of them but just something to have you think about.

  11. I swam competitively for many years and ended my career after college.  I swam twice a day for 8 years and had some great success.

I've now coached for almost 30 years and I've gone to practices twice a day for most of that time, too.  It's a killer ... a real grind.

However, in both of the situations (participant and coach), I've had great success.  As a participant I qualified for the '72 Olympic trials ... as a coach, I've had one swimmer set a world record, two kids go to the Olympics, several National age group record holders, and numerous high school All-Americans.

I've also coached summer league recreation teams that worked out once per day.

All levels of coaching were fun and most of the swimmers had fun.  However, the ones that have the greatest memories and, therefore the most fun, are the ones that had the greatest success and those are the ones who worked out twice per day.

You must determine your goals.  Are your goals those of high levels of success or improved health.

Swimming is THE sport from which you get out what you put in.  If you put in the miles in practice, you get great performances.  If you put in fewer miles, you get good performances but not as good as the first scenario.

    Good luck!
