i might be getting an ipod for xmas and i have installed itunes but do i need an itunes card to buy music

No, u don't need an iTunes gift card,  u can buy with credit card or just pass all your music from your CDs and put it on iTunes and listen to them or kep them storaged on iTunes.

There are also free music, podcast and videos on iTunes.

All you need is a debit card that they can charge you directly to, or you can buy the itunes vouchers in shops if you dont have a debit card, and you just enter the code on that card which allows you as many downoads as you paid for in the shop (you can buy those with cash) - so in answer to the Q, no, there is no specific itunes card you need to buy songs

No you don't.

An iTunes card is basically a gift card that you give to someone else. It's completely pointless buying one for yourself, you may aswell just use your debit card.

If someone gives you an iTunes card you scratch off a code on the back, then enter the code into iTunes and it tells you how much you have at the top right hand corner of the screen.

But all you have to do is have an iTunes account, and you enter your debit card details, so it takes anything you buy off of your debit card if you don't have an iTunes gift card.
