I would take that puppy out as often as possible.  Puppies still have such small bladders, and if they need to go... they will, even in the house.  Also - it would be a good idea to try and paper / pee pad train your puppy.  

One way to do it is to clean up your puppies urine with the pad / paper and set it somewhere in the room.  The puppy will smell her scent on it, and go and use it the next time she needs to go, and is not let outside.  

I think it is a good idea to leave out more than one pad / paper.  You will not have to leave the pads out forever. As your puppy gets older the bladder also grows and will be able to hold it longer.

Well, since it's a puppy...I'd recommend at least 4-5 times per day...It's nice  & warm outside, so go outside as often as you feel .... Wish you lots of fun with your "new kid"...

Hello LP.   Make this easy on yourself in the long run... as for now,  you are going to have to train yourself to train the puppy.   Start today and take the puppy out once an hour.  Stay out until you see it do its thing.  Follow with lots of praise and a treat.  Do that for about a week.  Also it is really the best suggestion to crate the dog at night.   The second week...  lengthen the time to 1  1/2 hour intervals... remember to always wait and then praise and treat.   The following week... go to 2 hours... and so on.  

The dog does not need to be as trained as much as you need to train yourself to do this and not be laxed.  Dogs are creatures of habit...  they get the habit to pee in the house and you can depend on it that they will.   Next thing I always recommend is to get a Maltese book at the Petco or PetSmart.   These little dogs are very unique and many people think they are ultra sensitive.  The book should teach you how to deal with problems and give helpful suggestions for other things that will come up.    Thanks for reading...  and LOVE YOUR DOG!!!   :))
