  1. If your turtle is dark: its a male (boy)!

If your turtle is light: its a female (girl)!

  2. males tails are 1 to 2 inches long females 1/2 an inch

  3. Im not sure if you have an eastern box turtle because eastern boxes are easy to identify by their eyes and the concaveness of their shell. here is a pic for reference of an adult E. Box turtle. http://www.bio.davidson.edu/people/midor...

If it is an eastern Box turtles then this is very simple:

For a female to be present, the eye color would be brown- to-light oranges the the plastron(bottom of shell) would be almost completely flat.

    For males to be present

The eye color would be very orange to almost red eyes and the plastron would slightly concave or indent in the middle.

I would check the link above for more info on identifying the s*x of ur turtle :) good luck

  4. I used to have a pet turtle, and I once asked an employee at a wildlife preserve how to tell the gender of the turtle.

She said female turtles have a flat shell on their belly areas, and boy turtles have a concave groove belly, thus allowing them to mate easier (boy on top of girl) with the female.

  5. we had a pet turtle for YEARS,we always just thought it was a girl, until one day....

HaHa...i don't know how you would tell

  6. boys have long nails as females don't also males tend to be smaller than females and males have a concave side under shell and females don't for mating

  7. If it is a baby, you won't be able to tell. Do not get them probed. There are very few vets who can do it without injury to a turtle. The idea of a probe being rammed up my p***s doesn't sound very pleasant. I suspect that your turtle won't like it either.

Once your turtle is an adult, you have other ways of telling. Eye color is said to differ but not all sources agree on all the colors. The male develops a concave plastron; females and juveniles have flat ones. If you look at the tail from underneath and can keep the tail straight back, look at the vent. If it is under the carapace, you have a female or juvenile. If it is beyond the carapace, you have a mature male.

  8. you can probe them.

when they get old enough you can get the vet or a local pet store to probe them, which means that they stick this thing up the reptiles but and if it comes out a certian color it is a girl and if it comes out another color it is a boy.  and the boys and usually darker then the girls.  don't worry the probeing thing doesn't hurt the turtle at all.

    best of luck!

  9. i believe that that if the turtle's private parts are closer to the shell it is a girl.if theyre closer to the tip of the tail it is a boy.but i may be wrong.but anyway i hope that helpes

  10. You will only reliably know if your turtle is male or female merely by age. As your turtle gets older certain features develop. In males, the underside of the their shells curves inward, this is so as to make mating easier, as the male mounts the female, his shell will fit on top of the females' securely. The other way to tell is the size. Females reach sizes of of 10" plus, whereas males only reach sizes of around 8- 10". Also, males are usually more carnivorous than females when they are young.

  11. easy answer                long nails boy   short nails girl
