  1. no HEAT ROCKS !! I DONT KNOW HOW MANY TIME PEOPLE ON HERE NEED TO SAY IT !! THEY ARE NOT SAFE !!

stay away from acidy food !! google it youll have alot BETTER and safer info if you do that

  2. try collard greens or turnip greens ..cut the lettuce and collard greens and/ turnip greens into little pieces and mix up...slowly begin to replace the lettuce with more greens...its not a good idea to starve your iguana out because sometimes iguanas just won't eat a certain food no matter how hunger they are...also my iguanas LOVES  zucchini and yellow squash

  3. We had some friends that had an iguana. They fed it several types of lettuce, broccoli, zucchinis, cucumbers, & tomatoes. Try those out, see if he likes them.

  4. First off You should call the pet store you purchased him from and tell them that No one told you how to care for this animal!

With that said, Here is what I learned when I had an iguana.

They can eat a varity of things.

Mixed fresh fruits - cut up small

Hamburger - Raw in small amounts (Source of Protein)

Crickets - A must have and they Love them. (Protein)

You should also add Vitamins for Iguanas to his drinking Water.

Change his food and water daily or whenever it is spoiled.

In his cage he will need a Heat Stone, Proper Lighting , A wading pool (they love to get wet) and an area where he can climb out of the water.

Branches and things to climb up on.

Please take the time to read up on the iguana.  They need the proper care or they will and do die.  I know.  I lost my first one because I hadn't been told how to care for it right.

  5. All of those things are BAD for your iguana. Check out this site it has a list of foods you should and shouldn't feed.

    http://www.geocities.com/Petsburgh/Farm/...

PS. The person above me said hamburger meat, WRONG. Do not give them any kind of animal protein! That will cause future problems and can kill them. No bugs, no meat. They need to be on a strict veggie diet.

No acidy foods like onion and apple, that can kill them too. That can kill alot of animals if you think about it. Carrots don't let them absorb calcium and broccoli has something in it that can hurt them (I can't remember what it is right now). Try squash and greens (collar, mustard dandilion ect.). That is what I currently use.

Heat rocks are BAD, they can and will burn your iguana do not use them!

Another PS: Any animal will eat if they get hungry enough. Skip a day then feed him. He'll eat whatever you put in there as long as it's freash. But, be sure to give him food that will help him, not kill him.

  6. They need a very specific salad, with dark leafy greens, green beans, squash, alfalfa pellets and vitamins.  A little bit of fruit also.  See this site for a complete and balanced diet:

    http://www.anapsid.org/iguana/igdiet.htm...

Lettuce has little to no nutritional value.  Broccoli and spinach can cause kidney problems.

  7. Sorry to let you know, but your iguana's diet sucks.

Romaine has no nutrience for your iguana, romaine is mainly water. You can add some to your iguanas diet, but diet should consist of collard, mustard, turnip, endive (see below for food). Broccoli you want to avoid over use, High in oxalates and goitrogens and should only be fed on occasion. Carrots should be very little and not every day, can block calcium absorption, also the carrot tops High in Oxalates, if you are feeding the tops. I don't recommend onion, some iguanas can have a reaction to onions. Apple can be too much acid, can be appetite suppressant, and sometimes cause loss of interest in foods. Grapes should be treated as a treat, not an every day food.

You may need to keep the Romaine in your iguanas food for awhile but decrease it every few days to where there is none in the food. Again, it's okay to give, just has no nutrience in the lettuce.

    Food:

Daily food should have 5-7 good staple greens (2-3 cups a day if not more younger igs may eat less then 1/4 cup) ... collard greens, mustard greens, turnip greens, dandelion greens (if you can find), endive, radicchio, arugula, mache (if you can find), watercress ... some greens to give occasionally kale, bok choy, escarole ... adding basil for young igs sometimes helps them eat ... romaine is mostly water no nutrience, you can add small amount and occasionally in w/ the good staple greens (collard, mustard, etc) but do not make romaine just your iguanas choice of greens (or any other type of lettuce most of us humans eat) ... some things to add (small amounts) snap peas, bell peppers (every now and then), parsnip, sweet potato/yam, acorn squash, butternut squash, buttercup squash ... fruits should only be given every now and then once or twice a week type of thing fruits are like junk food to iguanas ... some fruits to try papay, kiwi, mango, raspberries, strawberries, grapes, honeydew (great water source), canalope (great water source), 12 grain wheat bread ... if anything has seeds make sure you remove seed before you give it to your iguana anything w/ small seeds like strawberries wait like 3 days before giving anymore ... watermelon (seedless) can be frozen and then shaved onto your iguanas food helps w/ hydration everyday ... there are some foods that aren't good for your iguana: spinach has oxalate acids bind to the calcium, so even though spinach is high in calcium, almost none is actually available for the iguana to use, also the oxalate acids can form oxalate crystals which can and do build up in the kidneys causing kidney damage/failure ... some ig owners do give there ig spinach but in very small amounts and only once a month ... corn igs can not digest ... carrots can block calcium absorption ... bananas are low in calcium best to give another type of fruit ... apples too much acid - appetite suppressant ... rhubarb is poisonous ... food should be cut/chopped/diced no bigger then the iguanas head, if they are small having a chopper chop them up, or slice them into very small pieces ... spray/mist food to help w/ water/hydration

    Animal protein:

Iguanas are plant eaters, they should not be feed any animal protein. No meat/bugs, no dairy. If you ever give your ig iguana diet dried food, please read the ingredients there are so many products on the market today that clearly puts meat protein in there ingredients, usually w/ in the first 10 ingredients. Some that I am aware of that do MonsterDiet, TRex, Zilla, Wardley. RepCal Iguana pellets is one that is safe to use. Soak pellets before offering to help w/ hydration, only give a few pellets for you want the greens to be main diet.

If you go to the greenigsociety.org they have a really good list on food when to give what not to give.

Tomatoes are not the best to feed to your iguana ... they can have an acidic taste and you're iguana may not like. You shouldn't feed to young iguanas, I do know of some older iguana owners who do give tomatoes to there older iguana, but it is once in a greattttt while and they do not feed them the seed part of the the tomatoe.

    NO LETTUCE

    NO MEAT

    NO CRICKETS
