  1. I've got a little knowledge about both and I can tell you that it's much, much cleaner in an airport hanger than in an automobile body shop. A certified airplane mechanic makes very good money. There would be no question in my mind what my choice would be.

  2. With the right education I would suggest that you go into the airplane field because most of these jobs will start you out at $50,000.00 a year plus the working conditions are alot better.

  3. sounds like a statement instead of a question

  4. flip a coin.

  5. Auto-Body pays nothing (unless you are Chip Foose) and will kill you with dust and chemicals in about ten years. Airline mechanic's have all the "benefits" and VERY good wages.

  6. Both jobs require similar skills, but aviation requires more technical work and closer attention to detail. You can't just slap a coat of Bondo on a damaged airplane wing and call it good.

In the long run, aviation pays a better hourly rate, but you may not be able to find full-time work 50 weeks a year.  An auto body tech normally finds a job in a shop with a fixed location, and can continue to work in one place as long as he likes. An aircraft sheet metal tech has to go where the work is...  Doing in-field repairs, short-term modification projects, layoffs and job changes.

If you want to settle down in one place and raise a family, go with auto repairs.  If you want to see the world and spend half your life living in motels and short-term leased apartments, go with aviation.
