  1. If it's such a hassle then yes this would be a very good idea.

  2. tie the tail with some kind of soft stuff so that it doesnt hurt the dog even if the dog hits things and consult some doctor

  3. I don't think the Vet will cut the end of the tail off of your Lab but I would suggest taking your beautiful friend to the Vet to find out why her tail bleeds like that.

We have a Lab whose tail goes all the time but has never bled even though we go. "Doesn't that Hurt Puppy?", Lex is 2 years old.

What does she hit her tail on, I'd be looking to see what item in your home is doing the damage and move it along with seeing the Vet to see if there was an initial injury that got infected or something and can't heal.

  4. Is this what the vet suggested?

Before I would do this, I would honestly get a second opinion. It could simply be that the tail got cut once & she keeps on opening it again.

I would only dock the tail as a last resort - and for health problems only (some breeds get back problems, for example).

I agree, I would try to figure out why this is happening instead of doing something drastic!

  5. If she is an adult dog they can't just dock it like they do a pup.

Our dog got it's tale caught in the door and had to have an operation to have the damaged end taken off and it cost us hundreds of dollars.

It sounds unusual for a dog's tail to hit things so much that it bleeds, maybe there is something else wrong?

  6. Yea, docking her tail would work as she'd have no tail to be hitting around. If she is seriously bleeding from hitting her tail against things, then docking (having the tail cut) may be the best option. Check with your vet, they always know best. Good luck

  7. You can put a loose ribbon of velcro, wrapped around the tail and high on the hind leg. Only do this when she is indoors, so it won't get caught in a bush or such.

I have to do this to my big boy with "happy tail" when he is being groomed, or I come away with a black eye.

You can get the velcro where they sell sewing supplies.

  8. One of my friends had a Lab with "Happy Tail".   He would split it open on the corners of the walls and then the blood would fly everywhere!

She tried everything that she and the vet could figure out to try to take care of this, but every time this happy guy's tail would almost be healed, he would split it open again.   This guy had a strong wag, he could leave bruises on your shins

Surgery to remove 2/3 Rd'ss of the tail is the only thing that worked.

  9. if its causing your dog pain then i guess you should have it docked but i dunno

  10. I agree with most , Get the vet to check it and only get it done if its the last option.

  11. ok try tiring it up with bandages

don't cat it off u will say i wish i never done that her butt looks bad now

  12. I think you should have a vet look at it first. I think docking a dogs tail is cruel and should be used as a last minute action.

Have a vet look at it.

  13. If i was you i would put low stuff higher up so it can't hit them.
