I am (trying!) to write a police procedural detective series (think Mark Billingham and Peter James if you have read their work). I have the storyline and characters planned I just don't know whether to use a real place or make one up! I don't want to use a big city like London and I need somewhere that is a big-ish town but with rural bits too.

Any suggestions (preferably in Lancashire or Blackburn if anyone knows it) or do you think I should make somewhere up?

thank you.

  1. i think you should make up somewhere so that you can make the setting anything you want it to be.

  2. You can always make up a town, that way it can be anything you want it to be, and you don't have to worry about things being incorrect. It gives you more freedom to do what you want with the story.

  3. YOu should make it up so you can decide and not that place

  4. If you want a place near blackburn then try bolton. On the outskirts of it is a small town that has a rural ish area. It is Westhoughton.
