Should i do english or western? I have gone to camp and stuff like that so i have ridden horses before. I have ridden both styles but only remember western. Which is easier? I want to start horseback riding classes but i dont know which style to try.

  1. I started English and tried Western and didn't really like it. You get a lot more out of English in my opinion because you have to pay attention to the horse, and there's more muscle work to it. Like someone else said, it's hard for a Western rider to do Enlgish, but easy for an English rider to do Western.

  2. I would start with western pleasure and just learn the basics and begin to feel a little more confident on your horse and gain some muscle (soo if you start English you won't pinch your calves). from there you can decide if you would like to peruse something in western like barrel racing or begin English. English is much more complicated but it is totally worth it. other people say that flying over a jump is so much better (and i personally think it is), but if you are just starting riding lesson you have a lot of time to decide that is that you want to do before you will be able to jump. lol.

    Hope this helped,

  3. sounds like someone is copying someones answer here?

Ride English it's much more to it ..

Plus,, You'll ride better then western riders ,

  4. If you do not mind the harder one,, do English,,

It's harder, but a bit more to it, and most western riders find it hard to ride English

But English riders can do both ,,

    have fun

  5. If your into a more relaxed kind of riding then id go for western because its less technical and you don't have to worry about how the horse is moving so much. However if your like me and you like the thrills of galloping over a course of cross-country jumps or achieving a graceful test in the dressage arena then English is the one for you. If you like a challenge and don't mind putting in the extra work of learning canter leads and trot diagonals then id go for English.

good luck on whatever one you choose :)

  6. I ride english and love it.  I dont really think any of the two are easier but western is probaly more comfortable. ( ive ridden western only a few times for trail rides and stuff.)  It also depends on where your going to ride and what horse your going to ride.  I rode a horse Abby english and she was great and would probaly be good western but then another horse Cherokee I rode him and he's smoother western.   Also i dont know your area.  Do you even have riding barns around that will give western or english lessons.  If you have both then you can try both and actually see which one you like better.  Best of Luck.... happy riding
