so we have a recycling program in the town where i live, all you have to do is sort it out according to the guidelines and set it out on a certain day in the conainers that are provided. it doesn't cost anything. I was wondering if you recycle , why? and if you don't, why not? I am asking this queston because i can't understand why someone wouldn't.

  1. I live in Placer County. We have a state of the art Materials Revocery Facility that both mechanically and manualy pulls recycleables from the garbage brought in from residential and commercial sites. Our city advertises our garbage can as one big recycling can. Unfortunately that leads many people to not recycle. The facility currently has a diversion rate of about 40% which is good, but pre sorting recylables is more effective. I recycle as much as possible.

I recyle CRV for my own profit. I also use the recycle bins around town for newspaper and cardboard. The money from those bins goes directly into the city's budget. If the same newspaper and cardboard went to the MRF the company that runs the MRF would get that profit. I also put all my plant kitchen waste into my green waste can. I also recently began vermicomposting, worm farm.

I am trying to learn more, but there seems to be a lot of conflicting information about how much is recycled. The bottom line is bring less packaging into your home and avoid putting anything that can be recycled into the garbage. If you aren't sure where to recycle go to www.earth911.org.

  2. I agree with P.S. even though you are recycling your still polluting and all of that other stuff when recycling.

  3. Have you ever tried FREECYCLE.org or .com??

    Its wonderful!!!

I have gotten a brand new dining room set, an entertainment center, a 52 inch tv, etc

Of course you must be willing to GIVE AWAY. I gave over 10 bags of my kids clothing almost not used....and bikes, skates, skateboards, etc...swimming supplies, ....you do have to be careful who gets it. Some people can be SO unappreciatiatie!! others are SO very grateful!!!

I have had some leave stuff scattered all over my yard and not even say thank you! *they are usually the ones who really need it but havent been taught a dang thing *  I never call them again, I find they beg for everything. ON THE WHOLE, most freecyclers GIVE more than they recieve, like myself.

    Hugz and happy freecycling!

  4. recycling is a net harm to the environment.  Do you think that those big ugly trucks lumbering through residential areas, stopping at every house is an efficient way to harvest a few empty cans and bottles?

Do you know how expensive and how much of an energy hog it is to chop up, melt down, and otherwise process that junk?

It uses far more energy to recycle than it saves.

No one wants to admit this publicly, because it makes a few greenies feel like they're doing something valuable, when in fact they are not. They are doing harm.

  5. Many people don't worry about the kids and the future, for them it's ME,ME,ME....Now.

  6. Lazy people I guess.
