Samuels came in to bat with a positive intent and played his shots to all parts of the ground, putting the Bangladesh bowlers under pressure. The right-handed batsman scored 126 runs off 149 balls, in which he struck 17 boundaries and a couple of sixes. The aggressive batsman was named as the Player of the Match for his outstanding effort.
The cricketer from Jamaica, who made his way to international cricket in 2000, is now one of the most experienced players in the team. The all-rounder revealed that he likes the additional responsibilities on his shoulders.
“I am a senior player now, so I have to take the responsibility. I don't mind the extra pressure. I am aware of things I have said before, and I have to deliver. A senior player had to stand up and be counted, and I did it,” he expressed.
Samuels usually bats in the middle-order but the right-hander came in to bat at number three in the third ODI as he wanted to bat for maximum number of overs. The hard-hitting batsman is happy that the move worked for West Indies.
The talented batsman mentioned, “It was a difficult pitch to bat on, so runs on the board were always going to be difficult to [chase down]. I went to bat at No. 3 because I thought I had the technique to bat against spin, and the rest of the batsmen could do the job around me.”
