  1. count to 1 trillion, trust me, you'll be asleep before your halfway there!

  2. Something that worked for me may help - I don't know but it's worth a try.

I was doing all the things ppl usually suggest like switching off from the outside distractions, but it wasn't working.  Then I had a lightbulb moment;  I was unable to sleep because of all these internal thoughts going on, i.e when will I fall asleep, I have a long day tomorrow etc.  So how was switching off from the outside environment going to help me?  It wasn't it was just making me tune in to my internal thoughts even more!

So I did the opposite.  Focussed on outward things, a book, TV and didn't try to go to sleep at all.  Then all the internal thoughts stopped.  The worries of what time I had to get up, that I wasn't asleep yet, what i had to get done the next day etc.  because I was thinking of outside things.  And I fell asleep.

YAY!!! this always works for me :)))

  3. read and read something that is not ineresting to you. for example if you dont like cars read about cars. or listen to classical music softly. and most important try not to think, relax. they say thats why most people dont sleep because they are thinking about things.

  4. What have you tried? Try sipping tea.  Check into them, such as chamomile and see what you can find.

I went through this briefly, here's what I did.

    Exercised daily, usually early.

Drank lots of water, nothing to eat or drink after 6pm.

    In the evening...

    Took a warm bath.

Read a chapter in a book.

    Crawled into bed.

When I laid down I would begin to imagine a room, white, no windows, no corners no ceilings, dome like,  with all the things that were on my mind in there. This "clutter and junk", almost like a collage,  would be spinning around, representing my mind.  I imagined myself with a warehouse vac vacuuming it all up as it spun.  I would then open the door, push out the vacuum, leaving a spotless clean room and myself standing in this clean, crisp white room. I then take a deep breath, look around at absolutely nothing and picture that in my head.  After that, you are not allowed to think of any of those things and if you do, grab the vacuum and start again.  Sounds crazy, I know, but I realized that when I laid down is when the day come rushing into my head and all the things to come the next day too.

It's gratifying in some odd way.  lol.

I had a nickname...it was Insomnia girl!  Lol.  Thankfully, I don't need that anymore.
