“I don’t think I bruised the Schumacher myth”: Nico Rosberg
Nico Rosberg has said that he does not feel that he had damaged Michael Schumacher's reputation by outperforming him last season.
Rosberg said that he felt good about beating his teammate, but added that he does not think that he bruised the ‘Schumacher myth’. The 25-year old was full of praise for his compatriot in an interview: “He is a seven-time world champion and that will always remain in the history books.”
The young German racer insists that he learnt a lot from Schumacher and is looking forward to beating him again.
Schumacher returned to the circuit last season, and was overshadowed by his team mate Nico, who finished two places ahead of him the drivers’ championship. Some observers stated that Schumacher would never be able to be back in his perfect form.
Fierce competition between the two drivers is expected this season; many speculated that Schumahcer will only be a shadow of his former self. But the recent test session at Jerez has proved many wrong.  The German giant managed a long outing on day 2 of the Jerez test session, posting the fastest lap time of 1 minute and 20.352 seconds.
On the first day of testing however, both drivers managed only 15 laps with their cars facing hydraulic failures. Rosberg’s outing was cut short again on day 2, when he was forced to pit for a precautionary engine check, but he sounds upbeat.
“Yes, we weren't too fast in Valencia but with Michael's two days of running in Jerez we are obviously heading in the right direction,” he said.
Rosberg is gearing up for his sixth season in Formula One, and is eager to grab a win: “I definitely want to win a race. First one and then building on that win."
Only one test session remains before drivers hit the main events. It will be interesting to see how Rosberg competes with his teammate and compatriot Schumacher.
