Today i had my first day at Morrisons supermarket. Im on the checkouts and i got trained today and had my first go with someone watching. I was ok at scanning. But the whole weighing items and using the menu screen thing was so hard! I felt like people were watching me an thinking why the h**l is she taking so long?! Will this get better? I have my next shift on Saturday and i think it will be busy. Any tips?

  1. I used to work in Tescos and I felt exactly the same when I started! Just remember all your co-workers had to start some time! Give it 2 weeks you'll be a pro, I promise! It's just a matter of getting used to it!

  2. Have a word with your manager as soon as possible. It might be possible for you to get some more training. They will prefer you to be honest with them, rather than stressing out when you're actually on the tills. Saturdays are always busy in supermarkets, so it's important to let them know straight away. You'll get the hang of it eventually.

    Good luck.

  3. Yes it will get better in a few weeks you will wonder what you were worried about, don't worry what people will think everyone has to learn.   Good Luck

  4. yes of course it will get better it takes time to learn the codes for weighing but the more u do it the quicker youll learn and ul find urself doing it automatically without having to think wich weighing code is for each item and ur speed will quicken up to

  5. Working as a cashier can be a daunting task. I'm guessing it's your first job. I was in the same situation this time last year, after school. It can seem scary at first, with the scary public and all, but you just got to put yourself in the customers shoes.

Imagine how normal it is to go to Morrison's and buy something. It is exactly the same but you are serving all the people. Don't worry and it will come quickly to you.

It's like playing a computer game, you pick up the controls very quickly. Especially in a super market, all you do is use the till so it will become second nature, almost, this time next week. Guaranteed

  6. as the others have said, stick with it and it will soon be OK

yes I know the feeling of everyone looking at you ... look people in the eye, give them a big smile and say something like "sorry, I'm new" ... with a bit of luck they will smile back and be sympathetic and encouraging

  7. My only tips to you is just be patient and it will come.  As with learning anything new it all takes time and practice.  You will be fine and I think that in a week or two you will wonder what you were worrying about.

Just remember that everyone there was in your position at some stage.  Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it!

Remember to smile and be friendly and polite with your customers, relax and breathe!  You only have one pair of hands so don't worry about what you think anyone else is thinking.  You will be absolutely fine.

    Good luck.
