I dont understand Marco Polo?

Why is a famous children's swimming game related to an Italian reporter?

OMG,i use to play that game in the 70's.No one knows why its called "marco polo".I always thought it was because my brother's name was "mark" and he was always "it".Ha Ha.Marco Polo wasn't a reporter, he was more of an Italian explorer who is credited with bringing the "noodle" concept back from the Orient.Now you know where pasta came from.Back to the game. Its a fun game with allot of people.Another fun game is "Alligator"..its an underwater game using opposite sides of the pool walls as safe areas(and breathing areas for the "safe " competitors) the person that is the "alligator" treads water in the middle and goes after the free swimmers.The free swimmers have to leave the safe area of the wall before the "alligator" counts to 5.If the "alligator" tags you when you are not touching the wall...then you become"it".Its a good game to develope your lung capacity.

Yeah it doesn't make any sence why they used the name marco polo but someone with their eyes closed says marco and everyone else (with eyes open) says polo and the marco person wants to tag a polo person
