  1. There are 5 answers per category which are shown to the person when picked. The person has to give the answer in the form of a question. For instance--if the category was Movies, the one picked said "He is best remembered as Forrest Gump." You'd have to answer, "Who is Tom Hanks?"

If it wasn't a question (you just said,"Tom Hanks"), you wouldn't get the points/dollar amount.

  2. alex trebec (the host) gives the answers and the participants give the question

  3. Jeopardy is one of the oldest TV trivia or general knowledge game shows.  If you are talking about the format of the game, it is kind of weird, but that is part of its charm.

When you answer, you have to put it in the form of a question.

For example, if the clue read:

"This large animal is kept on a farm, and known for its meat and milk production."

The answer would likely be stated as:

    "What is a cow?"

The questions are divided into categories, sometimes with humorous or double meaning titles.  They are worth more points the harder they are.  Hidden among the clues are several "Daily Doubles", where you can wager all or part of what you have earned in the game so far.

Then on final Jeopardy, everyone gets a chance to first wager how much $$ to risk based on their knowledge of the category, and then to answer the question within the time limit.

The questions are among the hardest of any on game shows today, and to consistently be good at it requires a lot of general knowledge.  Don't feel stupid if it seems hard; it's supposed to!  Just feel very smart if and when you know the answer, especially when the on-air contestants don't!!
