Im having a hens night a week before my wedding just a chance for all us girls to run amuck get drunk and play stupid fun games and just all in all have a good time. People dont bring gifts to this party. I dont understand what a bridal party is (im not having one or want one) Im just curious. I believe people should only bring one gife if they can afford it to the wedding and thats it. Whats the purpose of a bridal shower?

  1. Not sure - is it in addition to the "kitchen tea"?  I remember asking people what a kitchen tea was and the response I got back (from some colleagues) was "a gift grabbing exercise". And then you get a wedding gift, a house warming present, a baby shower, another gift after the baby is born...

  2. Bridal showers are usually afternoon teaparties thrown by a friend of the bride with a gift mongering theme-eg-kitchen shower, book shower, laundry shower, garden shower---just tiny gifts to save the newlyweds shopping for detergent or a potato peeler and an excuse to get together and drink champagne(or tea) and play silly games. Not so relevant these days when so many couples have lived together and set up house years before the wedding-however some of us are soooo aquisitive....

  3. The purpose of a bridal shower is to give you things that you will need for yourself and your house that you don't have.  It is a way of helping you out and celebrating you and your fiance so you should be gracious.  People will want to be there and will expect it.  They will be disappointed if you don't have one and your bridesmaids will want to give you one.  It will save you a lot of money having to buy things for yourself.

  4. It's only really done in America. You shower the bride with gifts before the wedding. It's separate from the hens/bacherlorette party.

  5. its when it starts to rain but insted of water brides fall from the sky

    = a bridal shower

  6. Answered above, but it's not an "American" thing.  I'm from Australia and it has never been "an American thing".

  7. A bridal shower is an opportunity for people to shower the bride with gifts, usually more for her than for the couple. It is usually thrown by people other than family members and never the bride. If someone gives at the shower it usually means they give less at the wedding than they may have otherwise, or they can afford it.

  8. A bridal shower is more of a chance for the females (friends, cousins, Aunts, etc.) to get together to wish the bride a wonderful new beginning and to give her the little things that you don't always get at a wedding...like dish towels, all the kitchen gadgets, maybe some racey langerie...things like that. And a time to chat and have a party!  More for fun than seriousness.

  9. I personally consider a Bridal Shower a time to celebrate with my friends and the women in our families (brides and grooms) our parents (moms) won't be attending my "hen night" for obvious reasons.

We are doing a "High Tea" for my bridal shower. We requested each guest bring a Recipe and my Mother In Law is putting them all together in a book for me. If the guests want to bring something they can, but not "expected or required"

  10. The purpose of a bridal shower is to set up the new couple with household items they will need to start their lives together...new linens, kitchen items, fine china, towels etc. Sometimes lingerie as well.  It's an opportunity for all the ladies on both sides to get together as well before the wedding, eat, chat, sometimes play a few silly games etc.  No one says a bride MUST have a shower though, so if you don't believe in them, don't have one.

  11. The purpose of a bridal shower is for the newly weds to start a new home together.  By getting gifts from the people at the bridal shower, they succeed in starting a home.

  12. having a shower with your dress on
