I made about $5,000 last year and I am a student with a child. I just received my stimulus information and it states I only am receiving $600 dollars. Shouldn't I be receiving $900 since I have a child?

  1. Single taxpayers are eligible for $300 UP TO $600. It's not an automatic $600.

Since your income was low enough not to have a tax liability, you would only receive the minimum stimulus payment plus the $300 for your child.

Also note that if your circumstances change, you may be able to claim more of the stimulus credit on your 2008 return.

  2. my friend only got $2.30, yeah thats two dollars and thirty cents.. and he made $70,000. last year and has 2 kids so, be happy with what you got

  3. It's $300 for you because you made $5000, and $300 for your child.

  4. same problem here,  i even used the irs website to calculate mine, then it was different.   don't know what's up with that

  5. Many people miss the point that for a single person the amount starts at $300 and goes up to $600 depending on your net tax liability. Since someone making only $5000 wouldn't owe any tax, you're getting a $300 "rebate."

  6. If you only made $5000 last year, your tax liability was $0.00.  If your income was over $3000 but your tax liability was under $300, you only qualify for $300 (plus $300 for your child).

Single people can receive UP TO $600.  Most people, including the media, seemed to ignore the UP TO part.

  7. No, the amount for yourself is $300 UP TO $600, and is based on your tax for the year.  The amount is the amount of your tax, with a minimum of $300 and a maximum of $600.  You didn't have ANY tax liability, so didn't pay ANYTHING in, so got $300 for yourself, plus $300 for your child.  $600 total is correct.

Your friend must have made quite a bit more than you to get $900 if she only has one child, not just a few dollars more.  She'd have had to make aroundd $18,000 for that, unless she has TWO children in which case she'd get $300 for each of them

  8. bush hates you thats why..... our government took out loans with our money to give our money back to us so we canin turn give it back to them, and STILL screwed up more than 50% of those send outs HA HA....... economics is the sheet.

chances are you didnt claim your kid on your taxes

  9. You received the correct amount. You didn't make enough to receive the full $600 for yourself. So you received $300 or less for yourself and $300 for your child.
