I dont understand why Portal for the PC wont run. It says it requires DirextX 8.0 but I have DirectX 9.0

My graphics card is a VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP 64MB. Is this bad? Should I upgrade it? I don't have that much money and I don't know how to install a new one...so is there anything that I can do to fix it? I can play games like Maple Story and World of Warcraft but Portal just doesn't work! What Can I Do!?!?!?!?

Oh and I have an HP Pavilion a706n with an AMD Athlon XP Processor 3000

512MB RAM

DirectX 9.0 you should be able to normal operation of WOW, or if not

I suggest you test the computer registry documents were damaged, may lead to your question

You need to repair clean up the registry documents.

The graphics card sucks on this PC. The only way you are going to get any kind of gaming performance out of it is to add a AGP video card to it. It has a AGP card slot on the motherboard. All you have to do is go out and buy one (tell the sales person that you have "One AGP slot that is 8x or 4x (1.5V) and you need a card for it. Try to get a 8x 128 to 512MB. Take it home and install it or get a friend to do it if you can't or don't want to. Video card installation isn't really that hard to do. Usually just put it in the proper slot, close the cabinet up turn it on. You may have to disable the on-board card in the BIOS/Setup.
