Because Of the surgery I had, And I can't step on the ground. Or walk. I really really don't want to miss out my first day of school of Middle School, What could I do?

  1. If you're looking for a way around your situation I don't think even the rabid anti-HS crowd will be able to offer any helpful advice. Your mom wants you to be physically well enough to go to school and that's just plain common sense. Do you really want to start Middle School in a wheelchair? Kids can be very, very cruel and being disabled will just set you up as an easy target for the bullies. Wait until you're better and work at your studies so that you're well ahead academically when you do go.

  2. i would stay at home i mean its not forever cuz at middle school u r going to be walking alot it could do futher damage so just homeschool till lets say christmas then go to school i mean i would do anything to go back to school but my parents minds r made up

or u could be in a weekchair but i wouln't do that

ur best bet just stay at home till christmas break then after that go to normal school

  3. Well i can sure understand your disapointment, returning to school every september, with new clothes, new anticipation and excitement at seeing old friends, teachers...

i am disabled, and use a walker to get around..it's temporary, because of 5 disks that are damaged..but the walker is so easy and helpful...i can even fold it up, to go on excalators, etc. true, some kids might kid you or worse, so you would have to be determined, but if found that people were unbelievably nice!, after being sick 19 years, and 'not looking sick', pull out that walker, and people are helping with doors, and whatever they can do!..very supportive if anything. so, i'd ask my mom about the walker idea...although i use it to put my body weight more on my arms by using the walker, i am not sure how it would work if you can't put your foot on the ground...a physiotherapist would be the most helpful person, but she is likely to insist on crutches, so that foot doesn't touch the floor..and that's a lot of work, though you would definetely build up your upper body strength..people don't realize how tiring it is..

I wonder if their is room for compromise..perhaps using the crutches to go to a class, say once a day, once a week, etc. so you are still connected, but doing the majority of stuff at home.  or perhaps their's a school for other kids in the same boat?(doubt your jumping up and down at that idea), just brain storming.

perhaps an intervention meeting, with your parents, the dr. and a physio(or whichever specialist the dr. considers most helpful)...i would hate to get your hopes up, if there is no possibility of this, after all i have no idea what kind of surgery, what the prognosis is, (how long it will last, what the possible and expected outcomes are., etc.)

It would take a lot of love, patience and support, for your family to go to all that trouble, and have a supportive dr.,so i hope i am not encouraging problems/conflicts by even suggesting it..but you asked..so..

    good luck,

i hope you return to your normal, ambulatory self asap, you will grow(mature) from this experience, it sucks when you can't do things like everyone else, but someties you learn compassion, and a lot more lessons, esp. if this is temporary

  4. Woah, wait a second, think about this for a moment--if you aren't able to walk because of the surgery, how do you expect to get to class, get to your locker, etc.? You need to do what's in the best interests of your health rather than some outside "event" like the first day of school. How is this any different than being sick with something where you have to stay home and do your work from home before you can go back?

You've still got almost 2 weeks until Sept. 3--you may recuperate more by then. If you aren't able to go to school, then make the most of your homeschooling until you are able to go to school.

  5. Glurpy has some good advice! Hope you recuperate quickly :)

    Best of Luck!

  6. Well you should take these next few months and concentrate #1 on getting better, learn at home...and I am sure as long as your mom has been following the curriculum for your grade, you can enter in the second semester which is usually sometime in January. Look at the bright side of things...if you started school right now...yo would be so miserable climbing stairs, or getting elevator passes, everyone would be asking how come you can't walk well....trust me..if you start in the winter, everyone is in a good mood because they just came back from the holidays. You will be all better and be able to concentrate on meeting new friends, and your new school, rather than getting better.
