The former West Germany international has admitted that he never thought of Raul making the impact he has since joining the Gelsenkirchen outfit.
Gunter Netzer has admitted that he doubted http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-c30652’s move to Schalke in 2010 after the player spent 18 successful years in Spain with Real Madrid. He stated that few people would have predicted that the striker would be successful
at the Veltins-Arena when he joined the club in 2010.
The 67-year-old insisted that Raul is an outstanding footballer and gives his hundred percent while playing for his club or the country. In one of his columns in a local sports publication, Bild, Netzer further added:
"I admit that I honestly had my doubts when Raul came into the [German] league in 2010. Today I can say I was wrong.”
Netzer believes that Raul has done exceptionally well since joining Schalke in 2010 from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 and wishes him success for the remainder of his Schalke career.
At the same time, the former Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder specified that Raul’s increasing age prompted him to believe that the attacker will not be a success in the Bundesliga.
"Raul is a passionate football player with excellent character. He has proved this over his entire career over and over again. But I thought his best was past him and that after all the success with Real Madrid, he would struggle
to motivate himself for a new start in a new country. He has shown not only outstanding performances, but that he is completely authentic,” the former Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder concluded.
Raul made 550 league appearances for Real Madrid during his 16-year senior career, bagging 228 goals during the process before joining Schalke in the summer of 2010.
This season, Raul has been on the money for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Royal-95-c40387 Blues having already scored 11 league goals from 24 appearances. In all, the Spain international has 24 league goals to his name from 58 for the reigning DFB-Pokal champions.
The striker’s contract with the club is set to expire at the end of this season and it is highly likely that Raul will part ways with the Gelsenkirchen outfit in the summer.
