I dowloaded a torrent but dont know how to activate or turn on the subtitles?

i downloaded season 3 of prison break from utorrent for my friend. i have both the avi files and the srt files for each episode. i tried watching it but the subtitles down show up when you watch it. i want to burn them to a dvd. but i wanna make sure the subtitles are on there before i burn them. english is my friends second language and it would its easier for her to watch american shows with the subtitles. does anyone know how to correct this
