I downloaded my sims 2

Question

i downloaded my sims 2 perfectly, and im on a brand new laptop, so there is enough space for my game to work OK. but whenever i try and play the game, it is fine for 2minutes, and then it just freezes without warning. i have tried to download directx, but it just hasnt worked. help please!
