  2. Here is a walkthrough I wrote for someone who wanted to install some hair from Mod the Sims 2 (MTS2). It will work just fine for any download from any website. The only thing that won't work is using a download manager at sites like Simbology.com. For some reason, it downloads the download page instead of the content, so if you use a download manager, and all you get for your efforts is a .php file, re-download and click on cancel when the download manager window opens. You should then get the regular download box. Here you go:

First, you need to have a program to unzip/unrar the file once you download it. Since MTS2 prefers RAR files, you should get a program such as WinRAR. Get it here: http://www.win-rar.com/download.html

This is a free, trial version. Even after the trial expires, you can continue to use it. Just click "Close" on the little pop-up box. I've been using it for 7 months without buying it.

To get WinRAR, click on the link above. Click on the large blue download button. Save it to your desktop so you can find it when downloading is completed. Once it has finished downloading, double click on the file. It will now install. Follow the on-screen directions. When you've finished installing the program, delete the file you downloaded, you no longer need it.

Now, let's get you some hair.

You must be registered and logged in to download from MTS2.

Follow this link to a hair download:

    http://forums.modthesims2.com/showthread...

You can download this one, or choose another. This one includes the mesh, so you don't have to go to another link to get it.

Once the page has finished loading, you will see the title: Nouk - Andre Hair - Short hair for the ladies!

Below that are pictures and descriptions. Scroll to the bottom of the page. There is a box that says "Download."

At the bottom of this box are 2 files for downloading, just above them in blue it says "Download Files."

    Nouk - Andre Hair - Dark Recolors + Mesh.rar 2.04 MB 3,817

    Nouk - Andre Hair - Light Recolor + Mesh.rar 2.16 MB 3,264

The first is the title of the download, then the size of the file, followed by how many times it's been downloaded.

Click on the first file: Nouk - Andre Hair - Dark Recolors + Mesh.rar

A pop-up box should appear. If it asks where you want to save the file, select "Desktop." Again, this makes it easy to find.

When the download is finished, go to your desktop and double click on the file you just downloaded. It will look like a stack of three books (purple, blue, green) and be called "MTS2_Nouk_788402_Nouk_-_Andre_Hair_-_Da...

WinRAR will open. You will see the files to be extracted listed. There are five: four recolors and a mesh. Click on "Extract to" in the upper left corner. A box called "Extraction Path and Options" will appear. You must place your downloads in the games Downloads folder. The path to this folder is: My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads. I use subfolders in my downloads folder to keep track of my custom content. You can create a subfolder later.

Now that you've chosen the path, click OK. The files will be extracted and placed in your downloads folder. You can now delete the RAR file from your desktop (you no longer need it).

To be able to use any custom content in your game, you must enable custom content. To do this, start the Sims 2. Once the game has finished loading, enter a neighborhood. Now, click on the (...) button, then the Game Options Button (looks like a little gear or cog). Set "Catalogs Display Custom Content" to ON. If you have Nightlife or later expansions, set "Display Custom Content Dialog at Startup" to OFF.

Exit the game completely. Restart the game normally. Your custom content should be available. To check, send a female sim to a mirror. While this sim is selected, click on the mirror and choose "Change Appearance." Look for the new hair here.

To get the light versions of the download we just completed, repeat the above, choosing the second file in the Download Files area (except the enable custom content part - once it's enabled, you shouldn't have to do it again unless you install a new EP or SP).

This method should work for any download from this site.

You may also want to get the CEP, which allows for recolors of Maxis objects, a download manager and the Sims 2 Clean Installer.

    CEP available here: http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.ph...

    Sims 2 Clean Installer:

    Free Download Manager (FDM):

I suggest a download manager, because sometimes you download a file, go to unRAR/Zip it and get the error "Unexpected End of Archive." This means the download was incomplete or otherwise corrupted. A download manager prevents this most of the time.
