uninstall and reinstall.

Go to the messenger's website and click on "Help". Try to find the topic that is most like your situation.

Check your firewall is allowing it - go in and look at 'permitted' programmes.

A reinstall may also do the trick.

first check if you downloaded the right version for your OS, do you have any firewall application installed in your machine? if so, disable it for a moment and try to connect via your explorer settings
