i need help severely. i've been at the beach all of this past week, and of course the day i get home i drop my phone in the water. this happened yesterday, and when it happened i immediately took the battery out. i've turned it on and off for short spurts of time today to test whether or not it works. my brother told me that the salt water will oxidize the wires & that it's done for. :/ is there anything i can do to revive it? i got it less than 2 weeks ago.

  1. the salt will corrupt the connections in the phone so if it works again it will probably never work the same but you may get lucky, i droped my phone in the lake one time went down to get it set it out in the sun for a few days and it worked fine, but that was lake water not salt water so good luck and i hope you had insurance on it

  2. You may have killed it by turning it on. Yes the salt oxidizes the wires. This is why it is crucial to not turn it on until it completely dries, which can take probably up to 5 days. If you do turn it on, and it's still wet inside, it will fizzle and die.

My recommendation is to leave it alone for 5 days after the drop. Then, turn it on once more and see if it works. You really got to be careful when you drop electrical things into saltwater as turning it on while it's still wet will cause the object to stop working completely. Be sure it's dry before turning it on.

    Good luck.

  3. (1) IMMEDIATELY REMOVE THE BATTERY. VERY VERY IMPORTANT!

    (2) As soon as possible (preferably within 20-30 minutes). dissassemble the phone using Torx T6 screwdriver. (Get this off eBay or service depots, etc) Make an emergency trip to Sears/RadioShack/ACE/service depot/etc.

    (3) Clean/dry as much as you can, using Q-Tips

    (4) Dry the electronics components under a desk lamp on a paper towel for 24 hours.

    (5) Use a blow dryer, set on warm. Blow dry the phone. Make sure your battery and sim card are out of the phone.

    (6) Put phone in rice for 24 hours with sim/battery out of phone.

    (7) Reassemble the phone

    (8) Put back together

    (9) Only now it's safe to put the battery back in.

You can also leave the battery and sim out. Leave your phone out in the sun. Let it dry

  4. it might coast you a little but take it to radio shack or a verizon store. they will know how to fix it for you.
