I eat Taco Bell before every start, says Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Justin Verlander
The Detroit Tigers ace starting pitcher Justin Verlander is enjoying this offseason after winning every major award for his tremendous performance in the 2011 Major League Baseball season. Interviews, talk shows and exclusive sessions with sports journalists are his routine after he rattled every hitter with his fast throwing.
Recently, he appeared in a renowned television talk show and revealed his secret of success saying he eats Taco Bell before every start. He also stated that he is hopeful to repeat last season’s performance in order to achieve good results for his team.
He explained in detail and said,
“I had to stare at it the whole game. If I'm not pitching, we sit in the dugout and look around and I'm not doing much. When I look up, I envision your face on the side of the blimp. It was haunting me in the whole series. Well, every five days, so in-between normal stuff, but then the night before, as you can tell by my amazing physique, I eat Taco Bell. You're welcome, Taco Bell, Three crunchy taco Supremes, no tomato, cheesy crunch and no tomato every time. You're right.”
Verlander, who may perhaps, was in a lighter mood to discuss his secret of success in that particular talk show but on a serious note, his performance was certainly top class in 2011. Finishing with 2.40 ERA along with 24-5 win loss record, 250 strike-outs and 0.92 WHIP, Verlander certainly proved his sheer talent. He also improved his career 3.54 ERA along with 107-57 win loss record, 1215 strike-outs and 1.19 WHIP which also made him favourite to win all important awards.
While performing at that highest level, Verlander received the reward for his wonderful throwing as he was awarded the American League pitching Triple Crown along with AL TSN Pitcher of the year award, Sporting News Player of the year and most importantly, he won Most Valuable Player award.
Some baseball experts say that Verlander will be a great help for the Tigers to repeat last season’s extraordinary performance. The Detroit Tigers almost reached the last stages of the competition losing only to Texas Rangers.
