I am fully aware that its not safe to eat under 900 calories a day. I'm around 148 lbs and 5'4'' so yeah, that's classified as being over weight. Mind you I'm eating only fruits and vegetables, so im getting nutrients.

  1. Your body burns a certain amount of calories each day whether you exercise or not. We each have what is called a Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). This rate gradually decreases with age.  To the BMR you add the total calories used during the day due to all exercise and activity, which gives you your Active Metabolic Rate.

I am 6', 170 lbs and 52 years old. My basal metabolic rate is about 1700 calories burned per day. To that number I can add whatever calories I burn during the day due to activity and exercise. That will tell me approximately how many total calories I will burn up in a day.

Once you know this number you can eat however many calories you choose in order to lose, gain or maintain your weight.   You burn about 3500 more calories than you consume to lose a pound.

I have a page posted at my website that explains this further.  You can also input your own info to see your own numbers as far as calories used in a day.

  2. first off i agree with reply above me.. but also lets say u weigh 180 lbs u shud probably eat somewhere around 10x ur body weight in calories so that means around 1800 cals.. burning fat and losing weight happens once the calories burned is more than you take in.. obv that's what your doing but extremely to little.. u need the nutrients off of the foods u eat not just ur fruits and vegetables also because fruit is filled with sugar and sugar turns into fat when not used.. so u eating 400 calories is horrible like the reply above me says when u eat taht little when ur boy burns that off u go into starvation mode.. what happens from there is ur body has to get energy from somewhere and that is where it starts to feed off you muscles which makes u lose the muscle u have.. all in all eat healthy and a good amount and if u eat in like 6 meals a day but spreading out cals its more effective...

  3. this type of dieting and exercise isnt going to last. you are fasting your body and eventually it will seize up and cease burning fat. thats what the body does when it thinks its getting starved, goes into survival mode and releases the muscles to get used as energy and hangs onto the fat.

you need to increase the amount you are eating in order to achieve long term weight loss. stick to fruit and veg in the beginning, then gradually add low fat dairy and protein. no salts or sugars.
