I keep hearing stuff about conserving energy......are we running out or is it just good for the environment?

  1. It's not the energy that is running out.  It is a source of energy.  Energy never runs out.  A natural resource like crude oil can run out, and will in the near future at this rate.  People just throw around "conserve energy" to generalize about conserving our natural resources.

  2. Oil is a non renewable source of energy as is coal.  Renewable is solar, water or wind.  We are running out and the scientists have been warning us at least since the 1970's.  We should have electric cars covering the roads by now but the lawmakers did nothing to make it happen!

  3. The laws of physics dictate that energy is never lost, it is mearly converted into a different type. I.E. Chemicle to kinetic as in an engine. Kinetic to infrared as in frictional braking.

The reason we need to conserve energy is because the current mainstream way of producing electricity is non-harmonius to the health of the earth.

  4. Energy is always conserved. The issue is wasting it by burning fossil fuel, which is non renewable. Ultimately it will become heat, which is the lowest form of available energy.

  5. The reason this is important is simple. The energy for hot water for your shower, the dishwasher, your car, and lighting for your home all, for the most part, require the burning of fossil fuels to generate. Fossil fuels are things like gas or coal. The burning of fossil fuels release tons and tons of toxic emissions into the air that contribute greatly to the global warming that you hear so much about.

So, its not so much that the energy sources themselves are running out, but rather that using them is becoming dangerous for the environment, so curbing the unnecessary use of energy is important.
