  1. Yep, property casualty, because of the continuing commissions.  For life, which pays a higher initial commission, you have to keep busting b*tt forever.  After 4-6 hard years busting it in P&C, your book will become self sustaining, and grow by referrals.


  2. I agree with the answerer that said property/casualty insurance is the most lucrative.  I would add that commercial property/casualty insurance is the most lucrative.  Many of my colleagues make between $200K and $1M.  Some make a lot more than that.  The key is commercial insurance.

  4. The most lucrative, over time, is the renewals in property/casualty.

    You might make more commission initially by selling life insurance, but, by selling property/casualty, you build up your renewal base faster. You see, renewals for life insurance isn't as much as they are for property/casualty. You won't see many life only agents earning 6 figures. But there are many multi-line agents out there earning $200K - $600K and more over time, and with a lot of hard work.

    An example is my daughter-in-law. She is 28 and right now is earning over $200K. She has a long time to continue to build her agency. On one particular commercial sale, she earned $40K FYC. She will get paid that same amount, and more as premiums increase, every year, as long as it stays on the books.

    Not many agents make $40,000 on one sale of a life insurance policy.

Do you enjoy your work?  If so you will always make money for a happy person is a person doing what he enjoys.  I have an axiom which is: I have always worked at what make me happy and as an elder I have accomplished all my goals in life.  The main goal in my life has always been treat everbody as you would want to be treated & with a Christian attitude.  So don't worry about how much you can make but how many persons you can make happy.  Put the Customers interest first and you can not miss.  Be honest with yourself and others.
