Discarded Pakistani pacer, Wahab Riaz, is delighted to have taken part in the inaugural edition of the Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) and believes that playing alongside cricketers from different cultures was a tremendous experience.
Wahab, 27, represented Ruhuna Royals in the tournament and performed reasonably well, although his franchise failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the event.
The left-arm speedster was given a last minute contract by the team on the request of their coach and former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Waqar-Younis-Maitla-c96193, who has immense faith in the fast bowler’s abilities.
The tall cricketer from Lahore picked up six wickets in the four matches he played at a reasonable economy rate of 7 runs per over, which is the most important thing in the game’s shortest format, where the batsmen are always looking
for quick runs.
While talking to Pakpassion, the out of favour fast bowler expressed that he is extremely impressed by the management of the league and believes that the standard of cricket was also very high.
"I’ve really enjoyed playing in the Sri Lankan Premier League for Ruhuna, it’s a very impressive and professional setup," the left-armer said. "The standard of cricket has been very high and also very competitive. All in all it’s
been a thoroughly enjoyable experience."
Ruhuna finished at number five on the points table after the group matches with merely four points in half a dozen matches.
The 27-year-old cricketer claims that he loved taking part in the tournament, which helped him gain experience of playing along with many local as well as international players. Despite the fact that the franchise failed to make a
massive impression in the inaugural edition, Wahab said that there was great spirit among the boys, who were keen to do well for their side.
"There’s been a great camaraderie amongst the Ruhuna players despite the squad members being from all corners of the globe. That is one of the great things about playing in tournaments such as the Sri Lankan Premier League that you
make new friends and your team mates are sometimes the players that you have played against in international cricket," he added.
