I failed my driving test today.....?

I'm so depressed about it..... how many other people have failed their first one?

I got an automatic fail, because I pulled out in front of a car and the examiner said i didn't look left, even though I did, I just couldn't see the car. And I was already stopped by the time she yelled "Stop!" so i wouldn't have even failed but I did because she "intervened"

  1. I failed the exact same way. I failed the second time too. Passed the third (and that was 8 years ago now) and I have never had an accident, I think I am an OK driver, but it was just from being overly nervous during the test.

So don't worry I am sure you will get it the next time, and if you don't it's not the end of the world. Good luck!

  2. So you looked left, didn't see the car, and pulled out.

Sounds like driving without due care and attention to me.

Contrary to all belief this is not a game, and a lot of the better drivers fail first time and take advice to improve.

    You'll be ok next time.

  3. Don't worry about it. Lots of people fail their first test. I failed mine because I couldn't parallel park my mom's huge boat of a car. Try not to be so nervous the next time (I know, easy to say). It'll all work out. Just look at some of the total idiots who got their licenses, and you know you'll be able to get yours.

  4. Don't worry about it!  Very few people pass their license test the first time, including myself (it's pretty easy to fail because you are nervous, and you desperately want the freedom and convenience of being able to drive a car).  I failed the first time because I didn't parallel park properly, but I got it the second time around.  It just takes a bit of experience to realize what to do in any given situation on the road.  Just practice a bit more, and you'll do fine on your next attempt! :)

  5. You contradicted yourself.  Did you pull out or not?  Did you see the car or not?  You said you did not see it, but you stopped before the intervention...well then you DID see it...right?

It seems to me that what you did was to start out and then see the car.  You turned your head...but not because you were looking, but because it is the thing you're "supposed to do". The intervention is justified as the examiner would have been looking the whole time and would not say to stop until there was no alternative.  Did you stop because you were alert, or did you stop because she told you to but your brain tells you that you were first in reacting? Why do we look first? -To make sure you don't get into a situation where you're halfway out and having to put on the brakes suddenly!

Don't blame others for your failure....you'll pass when you show good judgement.  Be more mature about this...being depressed won't solve anything...using this as a learning experience will! That sounds like a great examiner...I hope you listened to any advice she gave at the end of the test!

  6. Not to sound disrespectful but the instructors dont want to fail you they want to pass you and get on to the next person.

They want to make sure that you understand everything so when you go out you will be prepared, give it another try and remember what you were taught.........and good luck.

  7. its not hard. i had mine like a month ago.

that must suck, and im sorry for that, but heres a couple tips to pass it next time:

make complete stops and wait for a few seconds.

when you first get into the car, make sure they notice you check your mirrors and fix them a little.

allways use the blinker (I was on a road that forced you to turn right, and even if you wanted to make a left (which you couldnt do because of the way the curb was anyways) you couldnt, because there was a median too.)

stay around 5-10 mph's below the speed limit. they look for risks you take and the speeds you drive.

keep both hands on the wheel, even when stopped, unless you drive a stick like me.

double stop when you cant totally se the road, they look for that. (like stop with your mirrors even with the sign, then pull up and stop again, i know its dumb but just do it)

and lastly, stay in your lane!!!

i know the last ones not hard at all, but i got yelled at because I was making a left turn, and i stayed in between the dotted lines that direct you. the lady said i was cutting someone off....

but yeah, do that and you should pass

good luck on your next one.

  8. Heya,

If it makes you feel any better, I have failed my car theory assesment twice, and passed on the third attempt.

[I have not taken practical yet]

The assesment sheet decides whether it is a pass or not, the examiner can't really decide, not if theyre doing their job properly.

There are minor faults, serious and dangerous.

That must have been marked down as either serious or dangerous. But If you don't record either types, you will pass. (Unless 16 minor faults are recorded)

When I first learnt to drive, I kept looking Only right, instead of left, and my instructor obviously corrected me right away. I tend you have improved perception skills now.

I Hope you Pass next time.

    The best of Luck.

  9. Failed the first - skidded down the road on the emergency stop; Failed the second - hit the kerb and was too shaken up to continue so walked back to the test centre; Failed the third - didn't use mirrors enough when changing lanes. I passed the fourth time though! Not passing first time definitely makes you a better driver in the long run! Better luck next time. x

  10. Remember, you don't really start learning until youv'e passed your test.

This is the problem with the UK test, many people think that once they have their licence they are invincible, pass the test in a 1.0 Corsa and think they can handle a 2.0car twice its size.

Take your failure as a good opportunity to get some more practice before being let loose with all the other nutters who think they can drive!

I took lessons in snow, ice, hellish rain and fog and boy they all teach you things you need to know but don't get taught.

  11. I passed my Bus driving test after my second go,  strange though ....  I never got to drive a car...

I had a provisional licence and took my test in a bus and passed and automatically got my car licence !!

    times have changed these days

  12. I only know a few people who HAVE passed the first time. You're really nervous and don't know what to expect the first time through. The second time you're still nervous, but you know a little of what to expect. You'll do fine the second time, everyone I know that didn't pass the first time passed the second time. =) Good luck!

  13. aww sweetie.. i failed first time too.. the best drivers in teh world failed first time.. you'll deffinaitly do it next time.. and look onthe bright side. you wont be so nervous next time, you know exactly what is in store..

every person i know that has passed first time has been in an accident too..

    bettter luck next time!

    x

  14. That happened to me i got told to stop when this idiot of a man ran in front of my car what did she think i was going to do run him over or something. After that i just cracked up because i knew i had failed only 10 mins after it started and i had.

    Past 2nd time no problems.

  15. Don't worry about it. Lots of people fail their first, second, third, and even beyond. I actually passed my first a couple days ago, but barely. Apparently I don't "look". But judging by what just happened to me a few hours ago, I'm starting to believe that. I actually just pulled out in front of a car myself, because I didn't really see it. Scared the c**p out of me! Somehow, I don't think it even phased the other driver... 0_0

  16. Oh well, you just didn't see the car. It happens to us all at one time or another. Unfortunately for you it was during your drivers test. Just pass it next time, no big deal.

  17. i havent taken my test yet but im sure i will fail several times before i pass. best thing you can do is not ponder on it. just take a few more lessons and keep trying at it.

  18. Some examiners can be "touchy" or quick on the draw. A lot of people fail on thier first try. When you try again, dont be nervous. Just relax, don't worry about what they're writing. Take it easy, clear your mind of anything that may distract you.

Good luck on the next try. You'll get through it.

I just say what I heard & seen from others, having a seziure disorder, I'll never get try #1. Yes, epilepsy.

  19. Hi!

    Please don't feel too depressed!!

It's rare these days for people to pass first time.

Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, take a few more lessons and send off for a new test date.

At least next time you'll know what to expect!

    Best of luck!

  20. Hi! Don't fret, I failed the first time around to. I didn't reduce my speed when I came off an 'A' road into an exit. In the end the examiner said, "don't you think you should slow down a bit?" so by then I knew it was game over. Look don't worry, there are people that have failed their test 20+ times. Book your tests again, you'll be fine next time

    Rhianna x

  21. yes, girlfriend i feel your pain, i also failed my driving test not once but 2 times before i got my licenses. well the first time i took it, i missed 3 too many questions and had to go back. then 2nd time i took written test i missed by one too many and they gave me an alternate question and i passed, then when i took my road test i failed it, and had to come back then finally passed!! the reason i failed road test was because when i pulled out into the road, i hit the curve real bad and then the instructor told me to take a left into a parking lot, and instead of getting over a lane and then into turning lane, i went from far right lane all the way into the turning lane, instead of doing it gradually. so practice and go back and you will do great!!! good luck.....

  22. I've been driving a long time and also failed first time.  IMMEDIATELY (can't stress that enough) send away for another test, putting off isn't the answer. In all honesty the examiner couldn't have passed you but just take what happened as a learning experience. Failing a driving test isn't like failing any other exam, there's no disgrace in it, hopefully you will pass next time but if not you just keep trying. I know itis costly and that sounds a bit disheartening but there are soooooooooooo many benefits to being able to drive that you MUST NOT give up. Also are you aware that it has been proven people who pass there Driving Test first time make the worse drivers and have more accidents?  Good luck!

  23. You looked left and still didn't see the car? That is not good. The instructor is thinking of the safety of those you will be sharing the road with as well as your own.

Instead of arguing with why she failed you, take a little ownership, practice with a parent and do better the next time.

BTW, Jack J, the small middle tail light is not required by law, so that is not why you failed.

Edit: Good answer change, Jack. Now THAT'S why you failed, LOL!

Edit: Wow, 4 thumbs down? Looks like some bad potential drivers will be on the road. I guess insurance rates are about to go up again. Yeah, you're all right; DONT take ownership for yourself, just blame others whenever things don't go your way.  BTW, I passed mine the FIRST time because I studied, practiced and succeeded.

  24. I failed first time too..so many people do, don't worry.    The advantage is that you know what to expect in the test next time.  Just keep practising on the routes..keep in mind all you've studied and prepared so they'll be fresh in your mind next time..I'm sure you'll be just fine.  I firmly believe that anyone who has failed a test automatically will become a better driver for it because of the extra preparation.

  25. As you can see from reading all of your answers, MANY people have failed their first driving test.

Many people get hit because they didn't see something.

You'll be driving soon, once you pass your test, and please remember that anything can happen at any time!

Just go back and give it another try.

Your Examiner's job is to keep you safe. She has a licence and you don't YET. She has experience in driving and took control of that situation.

Luck is when preparation meets opportunity, so.......

    GOOD LUCK!

  26. Aww dnt worry   1st time nearly every1 fails u cn always try again      my cousin she did her first driving test when she was 18  and now shes 20 and she still hasnt passed her driving test  shes been having many lessons though n i hope she will pass her test 1 day  lol !! dnt worry first time is nothing try again =D good luck

  27. L2 drive =p.

Be more careful and make sure it is very obvious that you look each time.

Not driving for a few more days/weeks isn't the end of the world

  28. Don't be depressed, lots of people fail it.  Sometimes it depends on the personality of the person testing you.  People warn you, try not to get Joe/"  Or, "don't go to THAT testing station, they're so much nicer at the North testing center, etc.

I failed the written exam of the state I moved to 2x in a row, same day,  before I decided I'd better go home and brush up on the rules.

  29. Let us get this into perspective, shall we.

You were failed because you did not drive with due care and attention. It is as simple as that.

It is precisely these thing that cause accidents, and how people get injured or killed. As it happens, it is normally the Innocent that get killed, and the drivers often escapes without injury.

Get a grip girl; you are in charge of a potential lethal weapon.

I have been driving since 1965, and have never had a crash; not so much as a scrape, even.  No, I'm not one of those slow coach drivers, either, I drive at the speed limit.

The difference, is that I drive with due consideration for other road users.

  30. virtually everyone fails the first time, regardless of what they tell you!!!!!

When they failed you, they gave you certain reasons...maybe you were nervous and made a lot of small errors,

Maybe you almost caused a major accident,

Based on what you said, if you looked, but didn't see a major thing like a car, that's an automatic FAIL. You didn't fail becuase she intervened. You failed because you are not qualified to be driving!!!!!! Looking carefully in your mirrors and over your shoulder is not something you do to pass a test....its something you do to avoid killing someone.

    Keep trying.

  31. If you didn't see the vehicle in the road...you didn't look effectively....you need to check each side more than once and check properly.  If an examiner does not think you have looked AND seen.....they will have to intervene for saftey reasons.  Learn from the mistake. If you are not sure whats there or how fast or how near....don't go and check again.  Book another test and have a few more lessons to give you more practice & experience.
