  1. Penalties are based on unpaid taxes OWED. If your expecting a refund I wouldn't worry about penalties. Call 1-800-829-1040, or www.irs.gov to order online and order forms for the tax year ending 12/06. this is only Federal. State taxes are totally separate


  2. File now, since you are thinking about it.  Did you file your 2007 Federal income tax return and receive your refund; b/c if you did that is rare because IRS is holding 2007 refunds and rebate until all tax returns from 2002 thru 2006 are all filed and processed.

    do it now.

  3. Mark is right.  I did the same thing.  It took forever to get the refund, though.

  4. You can file, but unless you expect a huge refund, likely it will be eaten up by late fees, penalties, and interest... compounded.

    Still, you need to file... lest the IRS knocks on your door... er, their door.

  5. Yes, you must file your 2006 tax return before April 15, 2009 to get refund. After that you will not get the refund.
