  1. Easy Red Wine Recipe

    For One Gallon

    # 5 lbs of Concorde grapes

    # 2 quarts of water

    # 2 lbs of sugar

    # One pack of wine yeast (good for up to 5 gallons of juice and you can pick up at a wine or brew supply house)

    # OR you can add some bread yeast, but your wine might taste like cider.

    # OR you can also do it the old fashion way, take your chances and not add any yeast and let it naturally ferment.

Lightly crush grapes in a primary fermenting container.

Dissolve sugar in water and add to crushed grapes(must).

Pour one pack of yeast into 2-3 oz of 104F - 109F water. Do not stir and let set for 15 minutes only! Then stir to suspend yeast and add to must.

Stir well and cover fermenter loosely.

Let ferment for 7 days, stirring twice daily.

After seven days remove pulp and siphon off liquid through a course strainer into a secondary fermenter.(5 gallon glass jug or one gallon glass containers etc.) Leave some breathing room in these bottles. Any extra liquid should be kept for topping off when racking.

Top with a rubber bung and airlock(pick up at a supply house) or use the '70's way and put a balloon on top, secured with a rubber band or good string.(Put one pin hole in balloon if using these method.)

Let ferment 3-4 weeks then rack (siphon off liquid leaving sediment behind) into clean secondary.

Repeat with airlock or balloon method for another 4 - 6 weeks or until fermentation has stopped.

    Siphon off and bottle.

    Age for one year.

Good Old 'DAGO RED' Wine Recipe.

For every 5-6 gallons of finished wine:

Take 1 bushel of Concord (blue) grapes (approx. 45 - 50 lbs.).

Stomp or grind grapes just enough to break the skins.

Put into a clean, open top container, plastic is ok at this point.

Add 15 lbs of sugar to 1 to 2 gallons of warm water. Stir until dissolved and add to crushed grapes (must).

Cover container to keep out contaminants.

In 24 hours add one and one half packs of wine yeast, Montrachet or Lalvin K1V-1116.

Stir "must" (pulp) twice a day for 5-7 days pushing the pulp down.

Your mixture should start to smell like wine after day 3 or so.

Siphon out the juice in 5-6 days if its hot 80-90deg and 6-7 if it's cooler or you are doing in your basement.

Press the pulp, if you can, for more juice. Although this will create more work in the future in more racking to clear wine.

Stir in 2-1/2lbs of sugar for every gallon of juice. Make sure sugar is completely dissolved. DO NOT ADD THIS SUGAR IF YOU ALREADY ADDED SUGAR ABOVE!

Put wine into a wood barrel but do not fill to top, as it will probably bubble over while it is working.

Put wine into a glass carboy and attach airlock.

Let it work for a couple weeks slowly topping off. Keep loosely covered.

Let it work for three weeks with airlock left on at all times and then rack. Attach airlock again.

Rack again in another 3 weeks.

When it slows down or stops fermenting, about Thanksgiving, cap tight.

When it stops fermenting completely, rack again, wait 7 days then bottle.

Keep closed until Easter, then open and have a taste.

Age in bottle for a year or so.

hope these help.                 good luck and enjoy.

  2. to start, just buy a kit. it comes with concentrated grape juice and everything you need so it is easy to ship to you. it's soooo easy. the best prices are from a company called california wine grapes in detroit, michigan. there are online companies that make it easy to order though.

  3. If you want that 'comma' (acute accent), hold down the alt key and type 0233 on the number pad - like this: é. Now you can type posh labels for your rosé!

  4. Yes - to make rosé wine instead of rose just hold down the  ALT key and type 130.

  5. As a home brewer I will give you the best advice I can...

SANITIZE EVERYTHING THAT COMES INTO CONTACT WITH YOUR WINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After that it really depends on how in depth you want to get. By dad makes wine, but he just used old milk jugs and pop bottles. It isn't that good.

My brother-in-law has oak barrels and makes a alright stuff.

I recommend going middle of the road. Go to http://midwestsupplies.com for a kit, recipe and ingredients if you don't want to leave the house...or don't have a homebrew supply shop near you. If you aren't sure about a local shop try http://byo.com/referenceguide/supplydire... to find one.

    My recommendation:

    Get a kit -

    http://www.midwestsupplies.com/products/...

    Get a recipe/ingredients -

    http://www.midwestsupplies.com/products/...

Get a book to read while you wait for that batch to mature -

    http://www.amazon.com/Way-Make-Wine-Craf...

  6. Well make some then. Most supermarkets sell kits to make wine,Boots sell them as well.
