I fear global warming. Help.?

Can you imagine living without our ozone layer? Our ozone layers protects us from meteorites, unhealthy UV radiations, keeping our planet at a temperature where human can survive. What do you guys think about pitching in 5 seconds of your life and doing the next generation a favor on how to protect ourselves and the earth by helping recycle, walk more often, car pooling to get to work, not waste water, and plant more trees, even flower, and grasses helps. If we take care of the earth, the earth will take care of us, and the future generations.

  1. I think you are in a little mistake. Ozono layer only protects us from UV radiations. When it is treated from meteorites, the ozono layer is not worth, and the temperature depends on carbon dioxide layer. Nevertheless, we are protected from UV radiation by Ozone, but that mustn't mind you. The Ozone layer, fortunatelly, is regenerated by itself. Otherwise we would be scorched a long time ago.

  2. It seems you are confused about a few things.

The ozone layer (part of the stratosphere) protects us from UV radiation.

The atmosphere as a whole protects us from most meteorites we come across. This has nothing to do with the actual composition of the atmosphere though. When a meteorite enters the atmosphere, it starts to heat up as a result of friction, and eventually it burns up.

Carbon dioxide is the leading cause of global climate change (aka global warming.) Most of this takes place in the troposphere, the layer of atmosphere closest to the surface of the Earth (and immediately below the stratosphere.)

Obviously your heart is in the right place, but it is important to know why you need to act, and how your actions will help, otherwise you will easily be led astray.

So, how can we help the ozone layer? If you are living in a developed country (as can be assumed by your posting on yahoo!) there isn't much you can do. CFCs (the main cause of the ozone hole) are under an international ban, and the only places you will still find them are underdeveloped nations.

How can you help fight climate change? Reduce your carbon footprint. Carbon dioxide is the product of combustion, the main method humans get energy. Combustion includes gas powered cars, and oil/coal power plants. Try to reduce your consumption of energy by remembering to turn off the lights when you leave the room, shutting down your computer at night, walking or biking when you can, carpooling or using public transportation when you can't. Buying wood furniture also helps. We all know that trees absorb carbon dioxide from the air and use that carbon to grow. However most people don't think about the whole carbon cycle. If the tree the dies and rots away, all that carbon goes right back into the atmosphere. If, however, you buy wood furniture, that carbon is trapped in the furniture for as long as you (or anyone) has it.

Recycling and water conservation are more general ways to prevent waste. Earth's resources are not infinite. By recycling materials, we don't have to keep mining and producing new materials. And, perhaps more relevant for us, we keep those materials out of landfills. Water conservation is aimed at preserving natural fresh water resources. There is plenty of water on Earth, and in never really goes away due to the water cycle. However, at any given point in time, there is only a limited amount of freshwater available. In times of drought it is important to conserve this invaluable resource for its most important uses.

  3. The most important factor in lowering the human impact on climate is the reduction of the emission of greenhouse gases.  One very important way to do this is the humane and voluntary reduction of the human population.  No matter what we do to make us more energy efficient, a growing population will overwhelm our solutions.

    It's as simple as 1 + 1 = 2.  One woman-one child for two generations.

  4. I agree with you,as a human we should try our best to stop it because we are the one who causes global warming.........

  5. Honey, I thought we are doing it. Just pick me pick me now. :)
