  1. When feeding a monitor, specifically a baby, it's important to remember that they ARE babies and have a weaker digestive system. Little ones feed primarily on bugs (as do adult monitors of this species, but try to find them big enough and plentiful enough and you'll go broke!) and too much meat sources in the diet act like steroids and in effect will cause your nice little lizard to become belligerent. So, to avoid "'roid rage" only feed meat a couple times a week at most. It's possible the monitor simply has had too much meat and  is having an adverse reaction. Also, remember to only feed frozen thawed rats and mice. Even though watching them hunt is cool the rodent WILL eventually win the fight at some point and could cause feeding problems in the future and/or scar your animal. Also, the chasing of live rodents enforces the instinct to chase warm moving objects.(ie., your hand!)

    Good luck with your lizard!

  2. "beasty's" answer is correct and very well stated! only thing i would add is an additional link to good infohttp://www.varanus.net/faq/

  3. I seriously doubt this caused any change in your black throats attitude. I wouldn't suggest doing that next time as you never know how feeding a reptile to another reptile may or may not affect who you're feeding it to.

  4. The beardie might have died from a disease that is now taking an effect on the monitor.
