When I go to a country where the main language isn't English I feel a bit shy when asking if they speak English then start speaking English to them. I feel like I shouldn't be because I feel they think how some British people would think: "Who do they think they are coming to my country and speaking in their language?!"

Except from English, I only know a bit of French. I enjoy speaking it, I try practising my French but when I don't know something I feel shy saying it in English to someone, for example at a restaurant or shop.

Do people not like it when people go to their country and speak English? I am not really shy at anyting but should I at least try speaking their language even if I don't know it or do they not mind? I hear that people like practising their English.

Do you feel the same?
