Question:

I feel as if I need glasses, but my parents are not sure...?

I used to have 20/20 vision, but lately I have been having trouble seeing things from a reasonable distance. I went to the Optometrist today, and they said I had astigmatism with a .25/.50 prescription. They said that they would usually not prescribe glasses for such a small thing, but since I was complaining about not being able to see they wrote one anyway. My parents don't think I need glasses, but I have been telling them I really do. Is there any way to convince them?

  1. Get contacts. They work better for astigmatisms. Also, with contacts, you don't lose your peripheral vision.

  2. When you parents ask you something and you need to read something to give them an answer, kind of squint and pretend like you really can't see. Make sure your parents are looking at you.

Also, tell them your head hurts from vision problems. It happens to me all the time from putting strain on my eyes.

  3. Tell a school official (nurse? guidance counselor? assistant principal?). They will intervene.
