our social security were not taxable, therefore on 1040 line 20a and 20b were blank as per instruction not to put any number on those area. So even if we receive social security benefits, it will not show on our gross income because they're not taxable. But according to Stimulus payment , those who received social security benefits shown on our SSA-1099 statement will receive stimulus check. Why us we receive nothing?

  1. Per social securtiy instructions for the stimulus payment you would put your social security earnings in box 14a of your 1040a form in order to recieve the tax credit for the stimulus credit. They also advise to print up top of the form STIMULUS TAX REFUND. If you are single with no dependents you should recieve 300 dollars credit. If married and no dependents you would recieve 600 dollars tax credit. Any dependents will increace your check by 300 dollars per dependent child under the age of 18. SSI  is not allowed to recieve the tax credit as SSI is not considered a taxable income.

So if you have yet to file do so. If you filed and did not report your social security income in the correct box refile and recieve a tax rebate..

  2. As previously stated, you need to amend because you should have put the SS on line 20a and indicated on the top it was for stimulus purposes.  Here is a link to an example of exactly how to fill out an amended form (from the IRS).  Also a link to the form that you need:

    Example: http://www.irs.gov/pub/newsroom/stimulus...

    Blank form:

    http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040x.pd...

(see these instructions for the mailing address: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040x.pd...

  3. If you non SS income did not qualify you for the stimulus rebate  you should have filed a paper return SSA-1099 amount on line 20a.  Write "STIMULUS" on the stop of the first page.  Now that you have filed the return you can file an amendment doing so.  Don't just fill out another 1040 you must use a 1040X form.  Include a signed letter explaining why you are doing this.

  4. You need to file an amended return using Form 1040X. You can get this online at the IRS web site: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040x.pd...

Write "Stimulus Payment on the very top of the form. Fill out the first section with your names (I assume this is a joint return), address, and Social Security numbers. Check the appropriate boxes on lines A and B. Skip Part I and go to Part II. On one of the lines write "Please calculate my stimulus payment." On another line write: "Total Social Security benefits of $___________. (List the total amount received in 2007 for you and your spouse. You need at least $3000 to qualify). Both of you must sign and date it. Mail it to the IRS service center that you mailed the original return. It could take up to 4 months before you see the money, but you will eventuallty get it.
